Claire Greenslade and Tim Martin – The garden – the greatest art form?

Claire Greenslade (Head Gardener) and Tim Martin (creative director) of Hestercombe Garden look at the crossover between art and landscape, with ‘garden making’ as one of the greatest multi dimensional art forms. Hestercombe is currently working with artists in residence linked to their contemporary art gallery, looking at issues such as helping communicate problems and opportunities associated with ash dieback, how to be environmentally conscious in a historic setting, and how to get visitors thinking about gardens and climate change. They talk about viewing the Lutyens and Jekyll garden as an immersive art work, in particular at how garden staff balance chaos and control as a collaborative team. She looks at historic gardens and their importance as living art history, what their role is, and how they might change in the future.
