Cassian Schmidt on Dry Habitats - in the Wild and the Garden

Cassian explains the ecological and aesthetic potential of dry habitat plant communities and their potential in urban environments and gardens. He looks at stylized North American prairie, Eastern European steppe and Mediterranean garrigue and at how these natural models can provide a great palette for planting design. He asks what are the ecological, climatic and aesthetic factors that shape those natural plant communities and how can they be applied in an urban and domestic context? He also considers their management and the level of changes that will happen over time. Finally some examples of projects in public spaces.
