Ken Thompson, Ecologist of the Garden - in conversation

Ken Thompson was a crucial figure in developing a key theory in plant ecology at Sheffield University, which has proved invaluable for garden and landscape people in creating naturalistic planting design. He talks about this and the BUGS projects which looked at gardens and wildlife. We talk about what you can really do to help garden wildlife and go on to discuss a range of issues where he has brought scientific rigour to what can be misleading or irrelevant claims about gardening methods and products. Bio-char, mycorrhizal preparations, forest gardening and permaculture all attract his critical eye!
