Listening to the land – creating a garden to endure with Marian Boswall & Caroline Jackson

Marian Boswall is a highly-acclaimed, award winning landscape architect whose approach to landscape design always has sustainability at the forefront. This event was held on a glorious summer’s day in an award-winning garden, designed for one of Marian’s clients. Participants walked around the garden with Marian and she explained how her designs evolve, starting with her response to the land, its energy, history and natural setting which informs her process and enables her to produce an enduring design, from layout to material choices and planting.

In the afternoon Marian was joined by expert horticulturalist and RHS examiner Caroline Jackson for an in-depth discussion with the group on the planting and more specifically the plant choices, keying in to how selection and layout can ensure a long-lasting garden. The event offered a great insight into the importance of a good working relationship between the designer and the gardener, ensuring that a landscape of beauty that will last the test of time, when design and maintenance have been carefully considered.
